Located near Lake Superior, Lutsen Mountains is the largest and highest ski area in mid-America.
Interconnected by lifts and trails spread over 1,000 acres, 4 mountains are similar in scale to some Western areas.
The resort consists of four mountains with 87 runs on 462 skiable acres, a 988-foot area vertical rise, and an 825 foot lift-serviced vertical rise.
The area benefits from the natural snow generated from storms off Lake Superior and boasts the Midwest's largest snowmaking system. The resort also has mid-America's only mountain gondola.
The advanced skiers will enjoy the variety of trails, and experts will not be disappointed. The novices are offered their own learning area on Ullr Mountain.
If you are a cross-country skier you will find 22 km of groomed and tracked trails.
Facilities at the area include a rental shop, a ski school for all ages and abilities, chalet, and a restaurant.
There are plenty of lodging options, from slopeside condominiums to bed and breakfasts.
Take I-35 to Duluth, then Highway 61 Northeast for 90 miles, to get to Lutsen Mountains from the south or west.
