Ski Cooper
Ski Cooper offers great conditions for white sport enthusiasts of all skills and ages. The resort caters well-groomed trails, developed lift network, qualified ski schools and many more.
Ski Cooper

Ski Cooper is nestled in the San Isabel National Forest proximate the historic town of Leadville and this ski area is one of Colorado’s the oldest. The ski resort was found in 1942 as an instruction site for the 10th Mountain Division Special Forces that battled in the Alps during World War II.

Ski Cooper is rather gentle ski area that is excellent for novice skiers and families. It offers varied terrain with 26 trails on 400 acres of ski area.

A variety of classes is offered at the resort, which cater to beginners and first timers and even more experienced skiers. You may pick up either groups or private lessons. Many of their personnel trained the skiers about 20 years.

Here you may also rent equipment for the whole family. The rental shops have everything for your ski getaway: skis, snowboards, gear and many more.

If you are longing for ski adventure, you may set off for backcountry skiing on Chicago Ridge on a snowmobile. You may try out 2,460 acres of treed and bowl skiing; and you may get as high as 12,600 feet on the peak of the Continental Divide. The mountain slopes may be from 3,000 to 10,000 feet long with vertical drops as high as 1,400 feet. You may also head for Snowcat tour to the ridge from mid-December to early April.

The resort offers something more than just alpine skiing. Telemarkers, x-country skiers, snowboarders and snowmobilers will relish this great ski area in the San Isabel National Forest.

If you are keen on x-country, you may find some great options nearby Ski Cooper. The Piney Creek Nordic Center caters 25 km of groomed x-country (track and skating). Or, you may visit the Continental Divide on your own by snowmobile.

After a day of skiing, spend evening in neighboring Leadville. Here you will find a diversity of affordable accommodation options and a variety of non-ski activities, like shopping, museums or fine restaurants.

If you travel from Denver, you should take I-70 west to Exit 195 at Copper Mountain Resort, and then go south on Highway 91 to Leadville.
