One of the best ski area in the world, Eaglecrest is located 12 miles from downtown on Douglas Island. The ski season here begins in early December and lasts till mid-April. There is no need to be anxious about crowds and lift lines here as the capital of Alaska, Juneau, is cut off from the rest of the world by a huge icefield and the only possible way to get there is by air or water. The resort boasts its huge terrain (640 skiable acres) with 31 trails, as well as glades, open bowls and ultra-steep faces. You may also find here a tubing area and snow terrain park. Eaglecrest gets plentiful snowfall, but there are no cold temperatures. There are five kilometers of machine-groomed and track-set trails for those who prefer cross-country skiing. The beginners may start practicing on the lower meadow trail. Many families come here to ski together. As for the accommodation and other amenities there are plenty of them in downtown Juneau, 12 miles away. You may take Eaglecrest ski bus which offers transportation on weekends and holidays only.
