Arosa is a traditional mountain resort that relatively recently turned into the sport center. At the turn of XIX-XX centuries not alpine skiers came here, but lungers in the hope of curing power of local air. Later the sanatoriums were closed and some of them where rebuilt to become hotels. Arosa has preserved the charm of Alpine village. It is embellished not only by surrounding mountains but also by two lakes.
The ski zone starts right at the doorstep at the elevation of 1739 m and stretches to the top of Weishorn mountain (2653 m). From here the longest trail (5000 m, elevation change 910 m) leads towards Pratschli to Tschuggen lower lift station. The slopes are mostly easy and intermediate, though FIS trail (2000 m, elevation change 745 m) leading to Carmenna-Hütte mountain cabin is for experienced skiers only.
The total length of trails on the slopes above Arosa is 70 km. Skiers may go to the neighboring Lenzerheide only with a guide, because connection of two valleys by lifts is only planned.
Special trails are laid for cross country skiers, including those at the elevation. Maran trail is lightened till 21.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. There are Snow Drop fun park and board-cross track for snowboarders. Those who love other sports will also not get bored in Arosa: snowshoeing tours, paragliding, hockey and curling, tennis and squash – it is by no means a full range of opportunities. One may also take a balloon flight and enjoy mountain view from the air.
In addition to numerous restaurants and cafes Arosa has a cinema, casino, art gallery, and library. Vehicular movement at night is prohibited, and music from bars and restaurants resounds over the surroundings. Fortunately resort occupies a large territory and many hotels are located far from the center.
