Are
Are is one of the best Swedish resorts and here many major ski competitions were held. A great number of slopes caters to all skiers so the crowds are rare at the resort.
Are

Are is the center of winter tourism in Emtland province. It consists of several villages including Duved with its railway station. Bus routes connect Are-Duved with other cities and provinces of the country.

Are fought for the right to held Olympic Games of 1994 but had to yield to Norwegian Lillehammer. Nevertheless the World Cup international competitions were held in Are many times. These facts alone testify that local landscape is perfect for winter sports, sport facilities have up-to-date equipment, and infrastructure is highly developed.

It takes a few minutes to get to the top of Areskutan (1420 m) by a cable car; from here you may enjoy a beautiful view of surroundings. The upper lift station is located not so high, but the total number of slopes is almost one hundred, so there is enough space for all, even at the height of the season.

Are is attractive for snowboarders as well: it has snowboard tracks, the best Scandinavian half-pipe is opened till 23.00.

Are-Duved invites visitors to settle in hotel buildings in standard or with-kitchen rooms or in cottages. Some hotels are located in close proximity to lifts, from others tourists are delivered by free ski buss.

Among additional entertainments are dog sled rides, riding, motor sled rides, sport ice games. Toboggan track goes parallel to the line of the first lift (Bergbanan) built in Are. One can try ice climbing and parachute flights. The sport centers are Durveds Sporthall (tennis, badminton, table tennis, artificial climbing wall) and Rehab- & Trainingcenter in Are (calisthenics, aerobics, badminton, massage, physiotherapy).

Ostersund, the nearest city, is located in the geographical center of Sweden: the distance from here to the northern boarders is equal to that to the southern boarders.  Ostersund stands on the shore of Storsjon lake, in which mysterious monster named Storsjoodjuret had been allegedly living for many centuries. The facilities for its capture are exhibited in the museum of local lore. Yamtli outdoor museum represents the way of life in XVII-XIX century.
