Sierra Nevada

The name of Sierra Nevada massif in the Andalusian Mountains of southern Spain is known to all who are fond of alpine skiing due to the World Championship of 1996. It was here where great Italians won their gold medals – Alberto Tomba (slalom, giant slalom) and Deborah Compagnoni (giant slalom). It is the place where famous sportsmen train themselves before competitions and Spanish king Juan Carlos often rests.

But Sierra Nevada ski region is attractive not only for high-level sportsmen and crowned heads. Pradoliano town has hotels and boardinghouses of different levels, and there are 45 different trails with total length of over 60 km in its outskirts. So both beginners and those who are improving their skills will enjoy skiing here.

Sierra Nevada is the southmost ski resort of the country. On a clear day one can distantly see the Mediterranean Sea and Africa’s outline from its peaks. But duration of the ski season here is almost as long as in other European countries, hundreds of cannons can provide snow cover if necessary. The skiing zone starts right on hotels’ doorstep at the elevation of 2100 m above sea level and reaches the elevation of 3100m. The highest mountain of the massif is Mulasen (3478 m)

All the slopes are served by lifts. The most famous are two El Rio trails  with length of 3300 m (elevation change 545 m) and 1100 m lightened for night skiing. Acropark has special tracks for dual slalom, freestyle, and snowboard. New snow park with snowboard track and half-pipe has been recently opened in Sierra Nevada.

Amateur sportsmen have the opportunity to train various kinds of sports. CAR sport complex is one of the largest in Europe; it includes numerous track and field halls, areas for sport games, tennis courts, swimming pool, and sauna. Trevengue sport club also invites you to gyms, indoor swimming pool, sauna and hammam, Jacuzzi, tanning salon, aerobics, and massage. Those who love figure-skating may visit skating-rink. And even those who love cross country skiing will find two trails in the outskirts of the town tightly surrounded by the mountains.
