This ski resort is the largest one in Slovenia, and it is located in the northeastern part of the country, only 6 km away from the resort of Maribor, and it makes 141 km from Ljubljuana, the capitol of Slovenia. The resort’s highest altitude is 1543 m, and its slopes are 40 km long. There are 21,5 km blue, 16 km red and 3,5 km black slopes at the Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort; in addition, 36 km of its slopes are designed for cross country skiing and 6 km are for tobogganing. Although, the distance between the slopes is great enough, and it is not unusual that one has to ski through the woods along the blue slopes in order to get from one slope to the neighbouring one. There is the night skiing, available with torches being placed along the slopes totaling about 7 km. In case if it happened that there is no enough snow, there are snow cannons, which would ensure a minimum of 100 skiing days, available at the resort. To other possible winter activities belong ice skating, hiking, curling, indoor tennis, indoor swimming, horse riding. It is also possible to go Sightseeing, visit all kinds of exhibitions, cinema, theatre, fine restaurants, disco, night clubs at the resort. As for the lodging, there is a hotel with 1,253 beds. The ski resort is also equipped with ski, snowboarding and other disciplines, including racing schools, where there are 200 highly qualified instructors. In addition, there is a daycare center, which consists of a kindergarten and ski kindergarten for little children.
There is “Zlatna lisica” (Golden Fox), the World ski competition held at Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort every January.
However, it should also be mentioned that Mariborski Pohorje ski resort is not greatly recommended for people, fond of snowboarding, because they are limited to the number of slopes, which can be used.
