Maribor

Maribor is among the most popular Slovenian ski resorts. First class facilities and high-quality services make the site famous.
Maribor

Not far from Maribor, the second largest Slovenian city, one of the largest ski regions of the country is located. Its total area is 220 hectares, the altitude of skiing zone – 330 -1347 m. Snow cover lasts 90 days a year for sure, and sometimes even longer – up to 120 days. Women’s Alpine skiing Word Cup competitions known as Gold Fox are held here every year.

Tourists’ path leads westward over Pohorje. On Rogla Mountain (1517 m) and at its foot tourist camps are located.  The highest point of the area is Črni Vrh, one can enjoy the view of the Karawanke Mountains and the Hungarian Lowland from its top.

The system of cable ways, lifts, and platter pulls makes all the slopes of Mariborske Pohorje available.  The region is especially attractive for experienced skiers, since the length of difficult trails here is 14 km.  But beginners will also find appropriate slopes, as the total length of trails is 64 km. The lightened slope is considered to be the longest in Europe: 5000 m.

Maribor surroundings are perfect for cross-country skiing (28 km of laid trails) and tobogganing. Winter stadium is opened not only for professionals, but for amateurs also.  Fontana leisure center invites guests to visit covered swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, bowling, and tanning saloon. One may take a course of paragliding.

Maribor stretched among forests and vineyards on Drava’s banks. This city has very beautiful old center where towers and other constructions of XIV – XVI centuries have preserved. The largest European wine cellars are located under one of its main squares.  One may visit these cellars only with excursion, but those who want to get acquainted with the skills of local wine-makers can do in other cellars and pubs of the city.
