Kanin is considered to be practically the only ski resort, which has runs that stretch more than 2000 m. The very ski resort is called the highest ski center in Slovenia, and it is located above Bovec, near the Italian border. It is well known for its snow-sure slopes, affording superb skiing in winter, and its stupendous panoramas of the Soča River Valley, the Slovene Adriatic, and the Italian and Julian Alps. When the weather is clear, the view from the mountain stretches as far as the sea does. Kanin is also called Slovenia glacier, which is the nickname, received in the result of great amount of snow. Ski runs are the best for easy and medium category of skiers, and because of the resort’s high altitude, it is not so crowded. All visitors are welcome to use to catering facilities on the ski area.
There are six kilometres of cross-country skiing routes in Kanin, and also popular are ski tours, with experienced guides, to the neighbouring high Krnica Valley. It should also be mentioned that special attraction of the Kanin ski resort is the opportunity to ski in other countries: at the Sella Nevea and Tarvisio ski resorts in Italy and at the Arnoldstein ski resort in Austria. Anyone, who buys a six- or seven-day Kanin ski pass can ski for two days free at these neighbouring ski resorts.
It is also possible to rent any kind of skiing equipment. And in case if there is no or not enough of natural snow, the artificial one is spread around the area of the resort. Besides, there is ski school, equipped by 11 highly – experienced instructors for various disciplines. Except skiing, such kinds of activities as ice skating, parasailing, hand gliding, sledding, hiking, indoor swimming are available at the Kanin ski resort. There is also a gym and several fitness centers, as well as sauna with a water – pool at the resort.
As for the facilities, provided by the resort, there are ten restaurants, dining, disco, billiards, different kinds of cultural activities, sightseeing tours available at the resort. Lodging includes several hotels, apartments and private homes.
