Geilo – resort in South Norway - located 4 hours of train or bus run from Oslo (the nearest railway station is Gol). Lifts are located on the both sides of the valley. As an Alpine center Geilo is relatively small but cross country trails are laid here both in the valley and in the mountains (40 km, lightened). Tourists usually settle in cottages or apart-hotels and dine in numerous resort restaurants. There are also snackbars located along cross country trails. Proper après-ski rest is provided by 2 discos, 8 pubs and 7 bars. Along with skiing, including instructor-led cross country skiing, one can try climbing, riding, skating, take horse or dog sled rides, or motor sled safari. Sport clothes and equipment can be purchased in several special stores; in addition, Geilo has two large shopping centers (Tunet Varehus and Geilo Sentret). Great impression will last after one-day excursion that includes the trip by Flombahn mountain railway. This excursion attracts dozens of thousands of tourists every year. The train goes down from Murdal mountain station (865 m) to the Flom valley at sea level. All 20 km of the way through rises, falls and tunnels resemble rollercoaster, but on the one side you hear mountain waterfalls and on the other see unfathomable gorge. Flombahn is one of the Norwegian sights and a pride of Norwegian railways.
