The Mt Lyford is a ski resort, which is considered to be the natural terrain park, suitable for all abilities. It is located in 26 kilometers drive from Waiau and it is about 60 kilometers from Hanmer. It is also the New Zealand’s first true alpine development, and it is the best choice for race training or leisure. There is a wide variety of learner and intermediate terrain there; in addition, the resort provides advanced skiing and riding in the Terako Basin. The resort’s sunny Terako field is considered to be an ideal area for family rest; in addition, it is a great learners’ area. There are challenging runs for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders as well. It is also possible to hire any kind of skiing and / or snowboarding equipment. Wild Ride terrain park has a natural terrain shoot lead in, jumps, rails and half – and quarter pipes; moreover, there is a heli skiing on demand. And there is even a tubing area provided.
Mt Lyford village offers chalets for rent. There is also a day shelter lodge, a cafeteria restaurant “Chamois Café”, a car park and an enclosed kindergarten located centrally. As for the additional accommodation, they are available in Christchurch, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura, and Waiau.
As for other kinds of activities, located close to the Mt Lyfort ski resort, there is a whale watching town of Kaikoura. One should also take a trip to Hanmer Springs to get a soak in the hot pools, a jet boat ride or to have the bungy jump, which is also called the daring.
