The Hanmer Springs ski resort is located on the Mountain St. Patrick, and it is in just about 2 hours from Christchurch. Transport is available from Hanmer Springs right to the door of the day hut. It does not take longer than 40 minutes drive from the alpine thermal holiday resort to Hanmer Springs. It is considered that it could be another world away. Skiing is fabulous in a good season when there is lots of snow. There are ski runs, adjusted for all stages of skiers; however, skiers of intermediate grade will literally discover a mountain of fun! And although all the main runs are groomed there's still plenty of virgin snow left for the experts and the more adventurous to enjoy. At 1850 meters its, part of the St James range that dominates the region. The ski runs Hanmer Springs ski resort for skiers of all levels, though it is considered to be the best for intermediates, those, which will literally discover a mountain of fun for themselves. The access to the runs is possible by way of one of the longest poma lifts in the country and two rope tows. These run virtually from dawn to dusk, up until the great majority of the skiers have more than exhausted all their opportunities.
There is a centrally headed Day Lodge complete with stoves, toasted sandwich machines, tea and coffee. It should be noted, that all kinds of accommodations are in the town of Hanmer Springs. There are also restaurants, the famous thermal pools (which are now equipped with hydroslides), horse treks, mountain biking, jet boating, helicopter rides, forest walks, one of the South Island’s favourite golf courses, tramping, fishing, and even bungy jumping available at the Hanmer Springs ski resort. It is also possible to hire any kind of skiing equipment. Waxing and repair services are also available.
