Located in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps, where the ups are good and the downs are even better; Craigieburn Valley Ski Area offers steep narrow chutes, wide open powder bowls, un-crowded runs or just a place to take it easy in the awesome vista of the Craigieburn Range. It also has more for intermediate to advanced off-piste enthusiasts. At the end of the day, visitors can ski or board to Koroheke lodge's front door just in time for happy hour at the bar.
Keep in mind that there are NO ski-hire facilities on the mountain.
Here you may enjoy various ski-touring opportunities beyond the patrolled area, including quick trips into Alan's Basin or Broken River or full day trips. Remember that you should travel in groups, know your Snowcraft, wear avalanche transceivers, and consult the Skifield manager before departing and obey closures.
The high capacity rope tows service a vertical rise of 500m. Skiable area at Craigieburn Valley is varied, exciting and challenging with the infamous 600m vertical descent of Middle basin (which is often compared to a heliskiing experience) accessible by a short traverse from the tow.
