The Broken River ski resort is located in a 1.5 hour drive from Christchurch. It provides fresh powder, fantastic terrain along with the adventurous playground with uncrowded slopes and friendly locals. While visiting this ski area, one can relax in the sun at Palmer Day Lodge, explore the rolling bowls, wide slopes and steep chutes. It is also possible to take the Ridge Tow to Allan’s Basin to have a backcountry experience and long powder runs. The ultimate finish to the day would be having an exhilarating run down through Allan’s Basin. As for the accommodation, there is a 15 – 20 minute walk to the nearest lodges from the ski area car park. All of the lodges are centrally heated with bunk style sleeping arrangements. There is also a canteen, ski patrol and first aid assistance within the resort area. Therefore, it is necessary to mention that there is no ski / snowboarding hire available at the Broken River ski resort.
The resort is run and maintained by the Broken River Ski Club. It provides a good alternative to those skiers and / or snowboarders, who are looking to have an experience back to basic fun in the snow. There are skiing and snowboarding schools with highly experienced and qualified instructors.
