Sestriere

Sestriere is famous for its well-groomed trails where various major ski competitions are held. The resort village is abundant in various non-ski activities and apres-ski options.
Sestriere

Sestriere along with 5 more Italian and French stations form Milky Way ski region (French - la Voie Lactée, Italian – Via Lattea). Every year the World Cup Alpine skiing stages are held on Sestriere’s trails, in 1997 the World Championship was held here. All the villages are interconnected by the system of lifts, so a skier is not limited to the skiing area nearest to the hotel.  Main Sestriere’s trails are located on the slopes of Banchetta (2823 m), Sises (2658 m), and Fraiteve (2701 m) mountains. The most diversified and interesting for experienced skiers are the slopes on the Sises Mountain.  On the northern-west side of Fraiteve mountain trails go in all directions. One may get there from Sansicario station (1700 m) built recently, modern and popular among young people. From Fraiteve peak one can enjoy the view of Sauze d'Oulx station (1509 m) that is considered to be a perfect place for family rest.

Claviere (1760 m), mountain village on the way to France has long been known as a ski resort. From here skiers may most conveniently get to Col de Bercia where opens a beautiful view of Moon Mountains (Monti de la Luna). From this station through the entire system of downhills and lifts one may get to the top of Fraiteve, Sestriere, and Montgenevre (1854) – a village on the mountain pass between Italy and France.

The longest and the most difficult trail of the region is Rio Nero (9000 m, elevation change 1150 m). Kandahar Slalom trail (1523 m, elevation change 370 m, difficult) is lightened on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 18.30 to 22.30.

Sestriere village, the center of the region, was built in 1930s. The construction was initiated by Agnelli, the owner of Fiat plants, who tried to create new for that time type of winter resort where sport and comfort are equally important. It is not by chance that the station of two cable ways is located in the very center of the fashionable village.  Convenient transport location (2 hours from Turin, somewhat over 3 hours from Milan, Genoa, Geneva, and Nice) made Sestriere one of the most popular Italian resort destinations.

The village sport center has swimming pool, sauna, hammam, indoor tennis courts. Riding, ice driving, and ice-skating lessons are proposed. One may have après-ski rest in one of the 11 restaurants or 10 bars, and in the disco.
