Italian Courmayeur and French Chamonix form common ski region. Its center is Monblan (4807 m) – the greatest European mountain. In 1965 mountain tunnel 11.6 km long connected these two ski centers. In summer one can get from Chamonix to Courmayeur (to be more precise from the top of Aiguille du Midi to the top of Punta Hellbronner) by a cable car. The view of the famous White Valley opens from above. But in winter this way is closed. After passing the tunnel many sportsmen get up from the Palud lower lift station (near Entrev village) to Helbronner and then downhill over the White Valley via the glacier. It is as dangerous as starting from Chamonix: one shall have special equipment and use guide’s services. Main Courmayeur trails start westward of the village. Here between Cresta d' Arp and Val Veni virgin slopes are especially vast. There are even such that can not be run without being familiar with the territory: for example, from the upper lift station at the Arp to Val-Veni or to Courmayeur via Dolonne. That is why it is better to start from Cresta Youla (2624 m) and go to Lago Chécrouit where there are some interesting trails, or go lower via beautiful forest. Many Courmayeur trails are famous due to international European and World Cup competitions. Experienced skiers dare to downhill the most difficult trail – Competizione (4800 m, elevation change 740 m). The longest trail is Youla_Zerotta (7 000m, elevation change 1100 m, intermediate). Easy Dolonne trail (350 m) is lightened on Wednesdays from 17.30 till 19.30. Courmayeur sport center known as a thermal resort as far back as XVIII century preserved its beauty. Courmayeur is a fashionable resort where it is a real pleasure to visit a shop or to sit in a café. In spring the carnival is festively celebrated here, and on February, 14 on St. Valentine’s Day dressed processions go along the streets and folk music is heard. Resort Information
