Nested just half an hour from the capital, Reykjavík, Blafjoll (Bláfjöll) ski resort boasts to have the largest skiing area in Iceland, and all guests, from novice to experts, will find a slope perfect for his or her skill. Gentle beginner and intermediate trails are located in 5 various areas. Several slopes are illuminated for night skiing and the nearby glaciers welcome summer skiing lovers. There are not much services available in Blafjoll ski resort, but you may visit a refreshment center and have there a snack. You may also stay at overnight lodging for 100 skiers in cabins owned and run by 3 skiing clubs: Ármann, Fram and Breiðablik. As for the nightlife, you may visit several pubs, bars and restaurants in the greater Reykjavik area. Blafjoll ski resort has an abundant number of groomed trails with an emphasis on beginner as well as intermediate skiers, in addition to advanced trails available for expert skiers. Eleven ski lifts, including nine surface/drag lifts and two chairlifts (both doubles) can serve for a total capacity of over 8,000 people per hour. The nearby Vatnajokul and Kerlingarfjoll glaciers cater great summer skiing. The ski season in Blafjoll starts in mid-November and lasts till May (open: 10:00-21:00 on Monday-Friday, and 10:00-18:00 on weekends and holidays). The best snow conditions in Blafjoll are observed from mid-February through March. You may try some other winter activities and amenities such as snowboarding and hiking.
