Garmisch-Partenkirchen does its best to keep traditions of an Olympic resort. The sport region has three levels: cross country skiing trails are located at the lower level, trails for alpine skiing go over the slopes of the Hausberg mountain, one level up there are gentle slopes of Wank dome-like hills for those who are fond of easy skiing, and the highest level is the Zugspitze glacier that gives courageous skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to show their skills. Nature and people did their best for sportsmen not to get bored at any of these levels. Wank is a perfect place for beginners, while virgin snow downhilling through Frauenmahd to the valley is for experienced skiers only. Downhilling over Esterbergalm is not so interesting, but there is a mountain cabin here where skiers can refresh themselves. Or, for instance, Eckbauer where two thirds of the slope are always in the shadow, and gondola lift can not also warm you up, there is a cozy family restaurant above. Eckbauer slalom trail is always supplied by snow from the cannons. Wamberg slope located aside of marked trail and slopes in the Osterfelder valley attract experienced sportsmen. The most famous Garmisch-Partenkirchen downhill trails are Kandahar (6000 m, from Kreuz Joch pass) and Troegl. Snowboarders, of course, go to the Zugspitze glacier. When the winter is snowy there are not so many people here due to the variety of skiing opportunities in Garmisch. The length of trails on the glacier is 14 km, two of them are considered to be very difficult. One may also downhill to the valley, but only to the Austrian side (Erwald, 12 km). As a resort with traditions, Garmisch has already developed the entire system of sport and other entertainments for its guests. In the daytime they can visit swimming pool, skating rink, and tennis courts in the Olympic sport center; at night - downhill from the Partnach glacial ridge lightening their way with torches. By the time they have arrived restaurants and cafes will be already waiting for them. Chapeau Claque, Kroenner and Thorn are the most famous in the Garmisch area, Lievert - in Partenkirchen. Young people usually go to one of the discos (Exit, Pinocchio) and night-life lovers – to casino. In the morning everything starts again: ski or snowboard school or downhilling over new slopes, lunch in one of the mountain cabins where it is such a pleasure to taste fresh products of local farmers.
