The mountain village of Tignes was submerged during the construction of a dam on Chevril Lake, but it gave the name to one of the most famous winter resorts in the world. It consists of several areas, Le Lavachet and Val Claret are considered the most up-to-date ones, they can accommodate about 13 000 guests. Tignes like Val d'Isère has a high speed-lift, so it takes 6 minutes for tourists to get to the Grande Motte glacier. Genepy, the longest trail (5500 m, elevation change 913 m) belongs to easy ones. The most difficult trail is Le Vallon de la Sache (2800 m, elevation change 770 m). There are also opportunities for those who love virgin skiing. These are the slopes of Vallon de la Sache, Tour de Pramecou, Lognan, Lavachet – Grand Balm. Espace Killy ski pass is valid on both resorts that can receive over 50 000 guests. The living conditions here are virtually equal, as well as the number of hotels and residences of all the categories. Except the altitude above sea level and distance to the certain slopes and glaciers the only difference is that Val d'Isère has preserved the charm of a patriarchal Alpine village, while Tignes keeps up-to-date in everything.
