Les Gets is a charming and authentic alpine village. It has retained its traditional Savoyard village atmosphere whilst it lies in the largest ski area in Europe. The Portes do Soleil’s 650km of trails cover 14 linked resorts in France and Switzerland. Its ability to cope with all levels of skier, plus its 1hr transfer time from Geneva and top class infrastructure, has turned it Les Gets from hidden secret to world class resort. It’s no wonder Les Gets was rated 1st by the Independent online in its review of the world’s 50 best ski resorts.
Part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, the largest ski area in Europe, Les Gets is based at 1172m, high up in the French Alps. The traditional dairy farming village is a community that dates back to the 12th century. It is now a pleasing mix of old Savoyard chalets and more modern wooden-and-stone buildings constructed in keeping with their beautiful alpine surroundings, with all the facilities you would expect of a modern ski resort whilst still retaining the charm of an 800 year old alpine community. It has a relaxed atmosphere, warm and friendly, in keeping with its traditional Savoyard roots.
The local ski area is made up mostly of blues and reds. Beautiful groomed runs wind their way downs the valleys making ideal conditions for intermediates wanting to cruise the trails in stunning scenery. There are plenty of hidden areas for the powderhounds out there and even 2 parks for the adrenaline junkies. The views from Les Get’s peaks are some of the best in the Alps, with views of the full Mont Blanc range on one side, then turn around to see all the way down to Lake Geneva.
Les Gets then connects in the Portes du Soleil, offering 650km of trails served by 208 ski lifts. The 14 resorts across France and Switzerland provide perfect conditions for almost every skier. Avoriaz is one of the top places to snowboard in the Alps with it’s 5 parks and 2 half pipes, les Crozets hosts the Swiss wall, reputed to be the hardest mogul run in Europe, and yet all this is set on a backboned of wide blues and reds, perfect for the skier who wants to ski to a different country and back all in one day.
Les Gets has many different ski schools to pick from. All the well known names are here along with many small and specialist schools, you are sure to find the right one for you. The accommodation is mostly in chalets and small to medium hotels. There is a strong focus on families here, with an area of the mountain including lifts for children only. Geneva is only 1 hr away, and there are many independent companies to pick from along with the large tour operators.
