Hismos’s popularity is explained mainly by its convenient location. It is easy to get from here to any place of the Southern Finland and to Jyväskylä (75 km), the main city of the Central Finland. Jyväskylä, located at the shore of Päijänne Lake, is famous by the fact that Matti Nykänen and Jani Soininen, Olympic medalists in ski jumping, trained here on the Laajavuori hills. Due to 50 snow cannons season here opens in November and lasts till the beginning of May, when green grass begins to appear around the slopes (17 downhill trails). Here one can settle in the close proximity to ski center lifts (distance to the trails – 0.5 – 4 km, to the lightened trails – 4 km). Guests are proposed to settle in hotel rooms or cottages (3 -10 persons) with kitchen, sauna, fireplace, drying closet; it is possible to take pets with you. Rent centers have over 700 sets of Alpine skiing equipment and 250 snowboards. Experienced instructors will use special programs to teach you to telemark and snowboard. More après-ski opportunities are offered in the small town of Jamsa at the railway station. Free ski bus takes guests here and delivers to the ski center (distance to lifts, trails and lightened trails is about 8 km). Himos is always growing and developing. It is especially attractive for family rest, since in winter not only sport but also entertaining events are held here. The most popular are dog sledge races over the iced lake with a halt by the fire, instructor-led snowshoeing (December- March), and short snowmobile tours over the surroundings proper even for beginners (1.5 h). Those who are fond of snow mobiles may go on a longer trip to Jyväskylä (4-5 h) that includes open air coffee under the cover, dinner, sauna in the barton, and ice fishing (optionally). In addition (applying in advance) you may go on a tour (3 h) using all the means of transportation possible in the given natural conditions and find the one that suits you the best. Tourists are provided all the necessary equipment during tours.
