Mt Buller lies just 230 km or about 3 hours from Melbourne, and as a result is very popular with Melbournites. The mountain is popular and it made Bourke St (the beginners area) the busiest ski run in Australia. It is a large mountain with plenty for everyone and has the longest vertical drop in Victoria. Mt Buller also offers the 2nd largest lifting capacity in Australia (after Perisher Blue). To guarantee good quality snow Mt Buller has installed extensive snow making facilities.
The village offers ski in ski out accommodation in places and a short walk or courtesy bus ride to and from the lifts in others. Mt. Buller provides its visitors with a large range of lodging, restaurants, and bars.
The resort is working hard to promote themselves as a year round resort and so there are plenty of summer activities on offer such as horse riding, alpine walking, mountain biking, mountain safaris and of course the facilities of the Australian Alpine Institute.
