Lake Mountain is premier cross country ski resort and one of the most popular resorts of its type in the world. At 1440 m, this resort has its steeper slopes below the snow line but its high altitude plateau incorporates an excellent Nordic ski trail system.
It is located about 2 hours drive north of Melbourne (making it the closest reliable snow to the centre of Melbourne) with the closest town being Marysville which is about a 20 minute drive. It is also the closest accommodation with no on snow accommodation available.
This resort is one of the three busiest Cross Country Ski Resorts in the world. It has a ski trail system offering the cross country skier 37 km of well marked trails, ranging from the first time skier to the most advanced.
It has a dedicated snowplay and toboggan area with snowmaking facilities making it an ideal destination for daytrippers wanting to experience snowplay. The contemporary administration and day centre offers a range of food and services and a warm retreat when necessary.
The season lasts from mid June to early October but both ends of this can be quite marginal with peak season being August and September. The vehicles may be instructed to carry chains during winter and park entry fees apply.
